The Best Art in Hobart

Whether you are looking for great painting, prints, jewellery, ceramics, wood, or glass, Hobart's art scene is alive and well and is sure to satisfy any art craving. Hobart isn't a huge city so you can see plenty of art in one day, or a few days if you prefer to keep a slower browsing pace.

Museum of Old and New Art
MONA, as it is more commonly known, is the jewel in Tasmania’s contemporary art crown - the gallery is testament to the thriving cultural scene and demands attention from international art community. David Walsh, the millionaire benefactor of the gallery, has described his wish for MONA to be a ‘subversive adult Disneyland’. The gallery is host to liver performances and festivals year-round so there is always something exciting going on.

Travel Secret: Not keen on walking? Why not grab an ARTBIKE? They are free for same day use or available to hire overnight or for a weekend. Available from Arts Tasmania. You’ll get the bike, a lock and helmet as well as a free map showing you the location of Hobart galleries.

TMAG is home to fine arts, contemporary installations, Aboriginal artworks and much more.

The not-for-profit gallery is a short walk from the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and Salamanca Place so is a must for anyone exploring art in the Hobart area.
