New Year’s Eve in Melbourne

Melbournians sure know how to bring the new year in in style. Spectacular fireworks, fun-filled festivals and foodie celebrations take place in all corners of the city, meaning the only hard part about deciding to celebrate the night here is working out which option to lock in.

The fireworks display in the city centre seems to get bigger and better every year. Last year, tonnes of fireworks were shot from the tops of 22 buildings for 10 straight minutes as the clock struck midnight. Impressive as this was, we have a feeling this this year will manage to outdo it.

Happy 2017 Melbournians, stay tuned for whats happening across Melbourne this year 🎉 Photo cred: @momentofmelbourne

Some of the best spots to watch the display include Federation Square, which always puts on a great line-up of music and festivities, Eureka Skydeck in South Bank, the Observation Wheel in Docklands (where you can hire your own private cabin), and foodie favourites with a view, like Fatto on the banks of the Yarra.

Family-friendly fun can be found at Footscray Park where live entertainment, a great selection of food trucks and a 9:30pm fireworks display will keep the little ones happy and occupied all evening long.

Day-after celebrations are also popular in Melbourne and you can enjoy everything from revelry in the sunshine at St Kilda Baths to a rooftop rave at The Emerson.

Whatever you do, make sure you book early – Melbourne NYE sells out fast!
