What to do in Perth these School Holidays

Here are our top picks for the whole family these winter holidays.

Start the day with breakfast at Ivy & Jack where kids under 12 get to eat free all holiday long. We highly recommend the blueberry and ricotta hotcakes that come topped with maple syrup, lavender mascarpone and crumbly almond nougat – delicious!

Take a trip to Winterworld, which is bringing all the joys of a white winter to the sunny shores of Freemantle. Skate around Australia’s largest outdoor pop-up rink, roast marshmallows over an open fire, build a snowman or race each other on the speedy ice toboggans. Hot meals, hot chocolates and – for the adults – mulled wine are also yours for the taking.

Revelation, Perth’s International Film Festival, is back this July, bringing an incredible selection of independent cinema to the city. Little humans even get their own special event this year in the form of Mini Rev; a collection of the world’s best animated short films. They’re quirky, joyful and full of unforgettable characters including her royal highness Queen Bum.

For every ride, activity and performance imaginable, spend the day at Kids Wonderland, Perth’s biggest kids’ carnival. As well as old favourites like jumping castles and Ferris wheels, you’ll also be able to milk a cow, create your own music video and get up close and personal with a 16 metre tall T-Rex. Fuel your adventures with popcorn, fairy floss and (for mum and dad) freshly brewed coffee.

Learn about the world’s oldest surviving culture at Saltbush, an immersive performance designed especially for kids. Join two friends from different Aboriginal backgrounds as they cross Australia on foot, encountering different landscapes and challenges along the way.

Finally, make the most of clear winter days by tackling one of the city’s spectacular hiking trails. Try the 3km Bell’s Rapid Walk along the beautiful Swan River, keeping an eye out for grey kangaroos and the infamous ‘Buttock Boulder’; enjoy beautiful Law Walk in Kings Park, traversing both the tree tops and forest floor; or head over to Rottnest Island for the day to explore a landscape of salt lakes and breathtaking bays.

Miss soaking up the sun with the fam 🌞
