Win! With Vibe Hotels & Travel Tales

Meg and Matt are passionate about all things travel and have developed a huge following on Instagram with their popular travel and adventure blog www.traveltales.com.au. Together with their young family, they travel the world sharing their Travel Tales, which showcase couple and family experiences (adventure, nature/outdoors and luxury travel). Their blog stemmed from their love of travel writing and passion for embarking on high spirited adventures with their cameras and with or without their kids! Whether it be a mini break, weekend getaway, mid-week overnighter, long overseas journey…they never tire of exploring new territory, immersing themelves in different cultures and ways of living, meeting locals and other travellers and embracing the great outdoors.

So Travel Tales, where is your ‘base camp’? What do you love about the area?

We live on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria and are lucky to call Anglesea our home. We live alongside a river and beach and have access to Australia’s most iconic rugged coastline right on our doorstep. We love being able to pop up to the local surf club or lighthouse for a coffee or go for long walks along the beach with our family or jump in the car and explore the Otways.

How does Australia compare to places you’ve been around the world?

Australia has so much to offer and we are spoilt for choice really. From the coast to the desert, from the warm tropics of North Queensland through to the snow capped mountains of the southern Victorian Alps, there is just so much to see and explore. But, it’s not only the jaw dropping landscapes and scenery, it’s also the myriad of experiences on offer such as extreme adventure, food and wine, family fun and nature based activities.

And if you had to pick your favourite holiday destination in Aus, where would it be?

We are going to cop out here as it is asking the impossible to narrow it down to one location. We would have to toss it up between Ningaloo Reef in WA, Cradle Mountain, Tasmania, Hamilton Island, QLD, Byron Bay & surrounds, NSW and Kangaroo Island, SA. But, there are so many others!

Favourite city in the world?

Again, WAY TOO HARD! Up there would be New York City, Boston, Edinburgh and Barcelona. Can we add the Canadian Rockies even though they’re not technically a city? ;)

I love the hustle and bustle of New York City! If there's one place that I really connected with on our travels it was NYC! We spent an amazing week there celebrating my birthday and I have so many fantastic memories and I can't wait to get back there again one day. Have you been to NYC? . . . . #familyvacation #traveldeeper #memoriesforlife #keepexploring #familytravelblog #travellerslife #bringthekids #bestplacestogo #letsgosomewhere #ilovetravel #wearetravelmums #familyfun #sharetravelpics #travellovers #mypassport #globetrotters #welivetoexplore #holidayswithkids #showthemtheworld #trekarooing #travelinspiration #travellove #travelkids #travelnow #familytraveltales #placestogo #visittheusa #newyorkcity #nyc #newyork

Any travel hacks for travelling with kids?

  • Be prepared for things to go wrong and just let go and ‘run with it’. Whether it is losing passports, plane delays, avalanches or road closures, you have to be prepared to ‘wing it’ if you are travelling with kids and not take life too seriously.
  • See the world through the eyes of your child – it’s a refreshing way to look at new destinations and loads of fun!
  • Don’t travel with an ipad. Our 5 year old Daisy is so good travelling in cars and planes without an ipad as it opens her eyes up to what we experienced as kids. Instead she chats away to the air hostesses and fellow travelers, sings songs, reads her books, draws and does puzzles and stares out at the world going by.
  • Start travelling with kids as soon as they are born as they become more adaptable and can sleep anywhere if you start them young. Daisy and Jasper are testament to this.
  • Remember life's short, so go out and live it!

Be honest with us, do you prefer camping or staying in a luxury hotel?

Megsy would have to say luxury hotels as whilst she loves camping and has camped her way all around Australia, nothing beats a fluffy robe, glass of bubbles and a pillow menu! Matt would say this isn’t even a debate and camping hands down as he is the true nature buff in the family! Daisy would probably agree with Matt as she loves camping so much and baby Jasper will come back to you once he has tried out his new swag ;)

Life of a dog and a newborn... After a day of exploring Marysville, it was nice to come back to our fantastic room at the Vibe Hotel Marysville to relax. We took Henry (our golden retriever) and stayed in one of the pet friendly rooms which we loved! . . . . . #vibehotel #tfehotels #partner #storksak #wandervictoria #goldenretrieversofinstagram #familyvacation #traveldeeper #memoriesforlife #keepexploring #familytravelblog #bringthekids #bestplacestogo #letsgosomewhere #ilovetravel #wearetravelmums #familyfun #sharetravelpics #travellovers #globetrotters #welivetoexplore #holidayswithkids #showthemtheworld #trekarooing #travelinspiration #goldenretriever #travelkids #travelnow #travelmore #placestogo

Any travel mishaps?

Besides the usual running late to airports and missing flights due to trying to cram too much in, we would have to say the elephant encounter.  This was when a baby elephant took a liking to Megsy and chased her over a rickety old bridge until she was pushed against a tree and they were eyeballing each other (both the same height) and just having a stand off and then the baby elephant ended up embracing her with its trunk. She was so scared she was shaking and I could hardly film it as I was laughing so hard.

What’s one thing that travel has taught you and your family?

To be in the moment. Slow down, take a breath and soak up new experiences. You grow together as a family through different life/travel experiences that you otherwise wouldn't be exposed to and this makes you so much stronger as a unit. Really switching off and enjoying the journey together - nothing beats it!

What do you guys have planned next?

We leave late July to go on a 6 week roadtrip adventure along the west coast of USA including California, Oregon, Washington and Alaska. We will visit the coastal areas, national parks and forests along the way and hopefully plenty of wildlife in Alaska. We are taking our 5 year old girl, Daisy, and 4 month old baby, Jasper, so looking forward to this fun adventure!
