Scarborough, one of Perth’s beautiful beachside suburbs, is getting an extensive $57.4 million facelift. The project is set to breathe new life into the area, firmly cementing it as one of Perth’s most exciting destinations.
Work is already well underway for a new beachfront pool, which is set to open early next year. The pool’s forward-thinking design includes eight 50-metre lanes and four 25-metre lanes, perfect for doing laps when the ocean’s too rough. There’ll also be a separate leisure pool, ideal for lazy dips and little swimmers, a well-stocked kiosk and plenty of shaded areas for sun-safe picnics.
Further along the beachfront, there’ll soon be new BBQs, attractive parkland, play equipment and Sunset Hill – a great green space that offers uninterrupted views out over the ocean. While this will be ideal for watching the sunset (as you may have guessed from its name), it’ll be just as good for watching the waves roll in throughout the day.
The beachfront will also become home to a swathe of new cafes, restaurants and retail outlets, culminating in what will be Scarborough Square. The whole area will be pedestrian friendly, meaning lazy mornings strolling between the beach, café and back again will be gloriously enticing.
The beach itself will also get a boost, from a redeveloped Surf Lifesaving Club to surfboard hire, deckchairs and beach umbrellas.
Connections between these areas will be easy to navigate, with upgraded walkways, ample parking and great public transport. Public artwork will also feature heavily in each of the new precincts, making exploring on foot a particularly enticing option.
Most of the upgrades are set to be complete early next year, meaning it’s only a matter of months until Scarborough version 2.0 emerges. Strike while the iron’s hot and book at room at Rendezvous Hotel Scarborough to be one of the first to enjoy the transformation in person.
